TRAVELING TO SF?

SCROLL DOWN

TRAVELING TO SF?

booking a flight?

When making travel plans, you can fly into either San Francisco (SFO) or Oakland (OAK). It takes about the same time to get to downtown SF from either airport.

Transportation Options to / from the Airport

BART - $9

Take the Bay Area Rapid Transit (SF's subway / train system) from either SFO or OAK. Trains are fun - Alex takes BART every day to work! If you are flying into SFO, follow the signs for AirTrain, which will take you to the SFO Bart Station. If you are flying into OAK, a shuttle will take you to/from the Coliseum BART station where you can wave to the Warriors' Oracle Arena from the train platform!

SUPER SHUTTLE - $15

A little more expensive than BART, Super Shuttle is a shared van that will take you to or from either airport. Follow the "Shared Ride" signs in the airport terminal that will direct you to the Super Shuttle pickup. When arriving in SFO, you will not need to schedule a Super Shuttle ahead of time. Because the Oakland airport is less busy, it is recommended to book a Super Shuttle ahead of time. When returning to the airport, you will need to book a super shuttle 24 hours in advance for a pickup.

RIDE SHARING APPS - $15-$40

Download Uber or Lyft on your smartphone to request a car. This option will cost $30-$40 - but watch out for surge pricing! To get a better rate (~$15), make sure you use either Uber Pool or Lyft Line; note that you will be sharing a car with others and you can't use Uber Pool with more than 2 people.

TAXI - $50-$60

Not quite yet replaced by Uber, you can still take the easiest and the most expensive way to travel to and from the airport. Signage in the airport will direct you to taxi pickup.

Hotels

Hotels in San Francisco can be a little spendy, especially the nicer ones in the Union Square area. But if you're willing to stay in the Western neighborhoods (closer to the wedding, but further from the usual tourist spots), prices are a bit better. Here are a few options throughout the city:

"BUDGET"

  1.  Oceanview Motel at Ocean Beach (~$130/night)
  2.  San Remo Hotel in North Beach (~$150/night)
  3.  MayFlower Hotel in Nob Hill (~$160/night)
  4.  Hayes Valley Inn in Hayes Valley (~$165/night)
  5.  Seal Rock Inn in Outer Richmond (~$175/night)

mid-range

  1.  Kimpton Buchanan in Japan Town, (~$250/night)
  2.  Holiday Inn Golden Gateway on Van Ness in Nob Hill (~$260/night)
  3.  Monte Cristo B&B in Laurel Heights (~$250)

High-End

  1.  Hotel Nikko at Union Square (~$325/night)
  2.  Inn at the Presidio in . . . the Presidio (~$380/night)

Pro-tip: If you do want to spend the money to be in the heart of downtown with good access to the tourist sites, we highly recommend staying in Union Square over Fisherman's Wharf.
